Batman's Back

Has the world really forgotten about Ahman Green? Remember Ahman? The running back who went to the Pro Bowl every year from 2001 to 2004. The running back who has totaled close to 9,000 yards this decade.

Should I bring up the running back who couldn't get the one yard necessary to get the Packers back to the NFC Championship game in 2003. Remember that? The infamous McNabb 4th and 26 game? When will that one be on NFL's Greatest Games?

Probably when their love affair with Brett Favre ends.

Anyway, Ahman Green, known by fans as Batman, has resigned with the Green Bay Packers to help their ailing running game.

Before you dust of your Ahman Green jersey, alter your fantasy football roster, and start partying like it's the 2001 playoffs, remember three things:

1. It's 2009. Green is now 32 years old.

2. When Ahman Green was good he had one of the best offensive lines in the league protecting him. Right now, Green Bay's offensive line is not good (you may note that Green Bay has recently resigned another staple from those 2000-2006 teams, T Mark Tauscher).

3. Even when Ahman Green was good (2000-2006) he suffered from Tiki Barber-like symptoms of fumblitis.

Ryan Grant will stay the Packers #1 RB. Brandon Jackson is goin to return this week as well. At best Ahman Green will get five to six carries a game; which is about all he's good for right now. He was a pretty below average running back in Houston from 2007 to 2008.

All of this being taken into account, this story has brought back some good memories.

  1. Also.. if I remember correctly, the FB John Kuhn wears #30 now... another reason to not dust off the Ahman Green jersey.

I wonder if he will buy his number back, or just wear what's available.
